Big West Festival is the leading community-based, contemporary arts festival in Melbourne’s West. A biennial festival, in 2015 the nine-day program ran from 20-28 November.
In 2015, to celebrate its tenth anniversary, Big West Festival brought together 70 multicultural, multi-artform events. Most of the activities were free and all celebrated the West through the theme, the inner and outer world of the HOUSE.
In a mesmerising spectacle, DWELLING inhabited the HOUSE with the compelling journey of women and children seeking shelter. An exceptional creative team created a web of animation, special effects, performance, music and light.
DWELLING was an open-air theatre experience that placed hope and despair in the same room, offering solace to anyone who ever felt homeless within their own home.
DWELLING was staged as part of the Big West Festival opening weekend on Fri 20 November and Sat 21 November. DWELLING was supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, Gandel Foundation, Australian Cultural Fund, Besen Family Foundation and the Angior Family Foundation. The Substation and Women’s Property Initiatives provided creative and development support.
