Phoenix Edge

Phoenix Edge is an open access workshop program for young people aged 16 to 25, who live in the Maribyrnong region. Led this year by Georgia Symons and Rex Semisi Pelman, the program helps participants devise, write and perform, experimenting with different art forms and new media to create their own original theatre.
Phoenix Edge supports young people to step into leadership roles, share in the decision-making, find their place and tackle the big issues in their community. And it’s all done through a fun and structured creative process of weekly workshops with other emerging artists and mentors.
Over the period of five Wednesday afternoons, Phoenix Edge coveres a lot of ground. Some of the themes are explored through improvisations, such as conspiracy theories, class conflicts, online gaming addictions, Instagram junkies, and dodgy politicians. These explorations will feed into a new production that will be staged in June 2017.
The workshops are open to all levels and no experience is needed. They are held each Wednesday from 4-6pm at the Phoenix Youth Hub in Footscray. For more information on Phoenix Edge and other workshops go to Western Edge

Phoenix Edge is a partnership between Western Edge Youth Arts and Maribyrnong City Council and is proudly supported by Gandel Foundation.
