The Social Studio is a for-purpose Social Enterprise dedicated to improving the lives of young Australians from refugee or migrant backgrounds. They provide education and training opportunities and help their members overcome barriers to employment.
Through the concept of a fashion business (clothing manufacturing, digital printing and the retail shop) The Social Studio provides TAFE level training, work experience and volunteer and employment opportunities and pathways.
In April 2020 Social Studio was one of the recipients of the Gandel Foundation COVID-19 emergency funding. The grant was provided to support the Social Studio’s Scrubs for Hospitals program, where they produced protective wear for frontline healthcare workers responding to the COVID-19 emergency.
The organisation safely redirected their manufacturing operations towards producing DHHS compliant protective gear. The Social Studio are permitted to continue operating during Melbourne’s Stage 4 Lockdown. Their teams are exclusively working on producing and dispatching PPE Medical Scrubs and Reusable Cloth Face Masks, at cost price to the community.
