Gandel Foundation Board announced the appointment of Trustee Graham Goldsmith AO as the Deputy Chairman. He was appointed to the Board of Gandel Foundation in February 2019.
Graham brings to the role a broad and wide-ranging professional experience, from finance, business and investments to community, philanthropy and not-for-profit engagement. Most of Graham’s business career was at Goldman Sachs, where he was Vice-Chairman & a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Australia, as well as Chairman of the Goldman Sachs Australia Foundation.
Since stepping down in 2012, Graham has held number of non-executive roles which currently include the Chair of Seek Ltd and Armitage Associates and Deputy Chair of Djerriwarrh Investments Ltd.
Graham’s for-purpose involvement has been prolific as well, and he is the immediate past Chancellor of Swinburne University and a past Treasurer, Vice President and President of Bialik College. His current charitable involvement includes being a Board member of the Stars Foundation, the Co-Founder of the Goldsmith Family Foundation and a panel member at Adara Partners. Graham also spent time mentoring young people in start-up businesses.
John Gandel AC, the Chairman of Gandel Foundation, said that Graham brings to the family foundation a strong background in strategic thinking and diverse business acumen, but also a deep understanding of, and interest in, strengthening the community.
“Graham has been heavily and passionately involved in many community causes and activities, and his appointment as the Deputy Chairman will reinforce our direction of growing and expanding our community involvement, impact and influence in the philanthropic and community sectors,” said Mr Gandel.
A proponent of education and mentoring as ways to strengthen the society, Graham said it was a privilege to be able to give back and contribute. “I am a strong believer in giving people a chance to succeed, and philanthropy can be a powerful conduit to achieve a better world for all,” said Mr Goldsmith.
