Gandel House was officially opened by the Governor of Victoria, Linda Dessau AM in the presence of over 250 guests on Sunday 15 May 2016. This was exactly two years since the Capital Appeal Launch which set the scene for significant donor and community support for the project.
Gandel House will extend the reach of Emmy Monash to offer levels of care and lifestyle options unmatched in Jewish residential aged care in Melbourne and will seamlessly link to current facilities.
Joe Krampel, President, emphasised “At every stage of the planning and construction, the Board and I tried to create a home and place where we improve the lives of our residents through positive ageing activities, entertainment, personalised care in a contemporary and welcoming environment. We believe Gandel House will be recognised for the value we add to the community.” He believes the Gandels are true visionaries and that they are focused on “creating a positive and lasting difference in people’s lives.”
A prominent audience of loyal Emmy Monash donors, life members and Government MP’s listened to John Gandel AO, representing Emmy Monash Patron, Pauline Gandel and Gandel Foundation. He stated “Gandel House will fundamentally redefine the meaning and the functioning of residential aged care accommodation, not just in the Jewish community, but beyond. Pauline, as the Patron of Emmy Monash for almost a decade is very passionate about what they do and a true ambassador of their work.”
The Governor highlighted the overwhelming statistics of living in an ageing community where people live longer than ever before. The recognition of increased demand for quality services and the generous support of prominent donors is a strength of the Jewish community. Tours of Gandel House were very popular and guests were amazed by the quality, style and light throughout the facility.
