Australia’s national museum of screen culture, ACMI, is strengthening career pathways for students in regional and outer-urban areas thanks to a generous multi-year flagship grant from Gandel Foundation.
ACMI is a world leader in moving image education, enabling school students to discover and expand their skills and creativity needed for the jobs of their future.
Following a transformative two-year, $40m redevelopment, ACMI is welcoming schools back to the museum in Fed Square. More than 10,000 students have visited since the building reopened in February, learning about emerging technologies and the art of film, TV, videogames, digital culture and art.
Students and teachers can now access the latest technology and creative tools in the Gandel Digital Future Labs – two state-of-the-art education studios renewed with the support of Gandel Foundation.
Through its partnership with Gandel Foundation, ACMI is also working with Tech Schools in Geelong, Bendigo and Casey to build industry connections and pathways for young students into potential industries of employment that focus on entrepreneurship, game design and other evolving technologies.
In the Greater Geelong region 100 students have participated in programs through this partnership and a new two-day program, ‘Virtual X’, is now available for the 28 secondary schools in the Geelong Tech Schools network area.
